250,000 Bernie Sanders Supporters Expected in Philadelphia @ the DNC - City Officials and Organizers Met June 15th for Broad Discussion of Synergy and Public Safety Issues

News Release: Philadelphia, PA, 6/17/2016. The primary election season is over but that has not dampened the enthusiasm Bernie Sanders’ most ardent supporters feel for the progressive platform their candidate has laid out over the past year. Facilitated by Philly.FYI Activists—a core group of Sanders supporters based in the Philadelphia area—as many as 250,000 fired-up “Berners” are expected to take to the streets of the Democratic National Convention host city beginning July 23rd.

Philly.FYI Activists Executive Director Billy Taylor and his planning committee met with 13 representatives of city government on June 15th to discuss cooperation with Philadelphia service groups related to bringing hundreds of thousands of supporters into the streets around the Wells Fargo Center in harmony with the thousands of expected convention delegate attendees. Among the city departments represented at the table were the Office of Special Events, Parks & Recreation, the Philadelphia Fire Department, and the Office of Emergency Management.

According to Taylor, “This first meeting with the City of Philadelphia was very productive, and we appreciate the city's constructive input and support." He added, "We are still awaiting clarification on some critical issues.”

Taylor said successive meetings are planned between Philly.FYI Activists and city officials.
